Egypt, Astrology in [Prima]

The stable and continuous civilization along the Nile was not pessimistic and fearful, as were the unstable civilizations of Mesopotamia. In contrast to the omen-astrology of the latter, the Egyptian study of the stars took the form of an astro- religion and was noted for its sophistication in time keeping. Egyptian temples are decorated with depictions of precise astronomical alignments. Calendar science was highly developed and eventually influenced the rest of the world. The most important astronomical event in ancient Egypt was a regular occurrence: the heliacal rising of Sirius, which coincided with the flooding of the Nile.
