Isidore of Seville [Astro*Index]

(560?-636) Spanish scholare. Born and died at Seville.

Became Archbishop of Seville in 609. About 622, his encyclopedic work, Etymologies, was published. It contained much of the knowledge available from Greek works, borrowing from Pliny. He accepted astrology as a valid discipline, and embraced the "mystic significance" of numbers (per the theories of Pythagoras).
