Promittor [Astri*Index]Used in directions, the promittor is the natal or birth position of a planet to which another planet (the significator) applies according to an arc commonly determined by the transiting ascendant and in which one degree is said to be equal to one year in a person's life. Thus, two planets 50° from each other have specific relevance to an individual's 50th year of life. A table of angular separations between all natal planetary pairings is useful is making a quick assessment of which planets are activated in which years. It is also possible to double, triple, quadruple (etc.) the number of years, or halve (etc.) the angular separation. For example, two planets 160 degrees from each other may have relevance to an individual's 40th year of life. [we need some Ptolemy here]

♦ Directions ♦ Significator
A planet, to which a significator may be "directed" in order to form an aspect between the "progressed position" of the Significator and the "birth position" of the promittor, whereby certain events or conditions are promised as concerns the significator so directed. The distance the significator must travel to form this aspect is termed the "arc of direction," to be reduced to time, usually at the rate of 1° for a year and 5' for a month.
