Shadow Point [Astro*Index]

The longitudinal boundaries of a retrograde shadow, or Retrograde Loop. These points are determined as follows: The longitudes of the Western Station (at which the planet changes from Direct to Retrograde motion) and the Eastern Station (at which the planet changes from Retrograde to Direct motion) are determined. The ISP (Initial Shadow Point) is determined at a moment earlier than either of the stations, such that the longitude of the planet is equal to that of its (subsequent) Western Station. The FSP (Final Shadow Point) is determined at a moment later than either of the stations, such that the longitude of the planet is equal to that of its (previous) Eastern station. See Figure S1. When passing through the ISP or FSP points, the planet is moving in Direct motion. The time-sequence is, thus: ISP, East Station (SR), West Station (SD), and FSP. Note that a planet traverses a small zodiacal arc 3 times during each Retrograde Loop: 2 in Direct motion, 1 in Retrograde motion.
