Variable Star [Astro*Index]Term originally referred to stars which varied in brightness, but now extended to include stars which vary in their output of any sort of energy or particle. There are many sorts of variable stars, including Cataclysmic, Cepheid, Extrinsic, Eruptive, Intrinsic, Irregular, Long-Period, Regular, and Semi-Regular.
