Wolf, Maximillian Franz Joseph Cornelius [Astro*Index](1863-1932) German astronomer.
Born and died at Heidelberg. Gathering observations from the time of Galileo, he extended Schwabe's data on the sunspot cycle. He adapted photographic techniques to the discovery of planetoids. He discovered over 500 planetoids using this technique. In 1906, he discovered Achilles (asteroid 588) which was the first of the group known as the Trojans; these asteroids travel in Jupiter's orbit at one of the stable Lagrangian points. He discovered the North American nebula, and was first to detect the 1909-10 return of Halley's Comet.
