Kant, Immanuel [Astro*Index](1724-1804) German philosopher.
His General History of Nature and Theory of the Heavens, published in 1755, contains three important topics which acticipated the efforts of others: (1) The Nebular Hypothesis (Laplace); (2) the Milky Way as a lens-shaped colletion of stars, and that other "island universes" existed ; and (3) Tidal Friction slowed the rotation of the Earth.
