Quarter Moon [Astro*Index]

The phase which occurs when the excess of the Moon's apparent longitude over the Sun's apparent longitude is either 90° (first quarter), or 270° (last quarter). Although close, this is not precisely at the same moment of time when the visible disk of the Moon is half-illuminated.
