Schwabe, Heinrich Samuel [Astro*Index](shvah'buh) (1789-1875) German astronomer.
After 17 years of observations of sunspots, he announced his discovery of the sunspot cycle; he thought it was 10 years, but it is now known to be about 11 years. He also presented a drawing of Jupiter which displayed the Great Red Spot.
