The blanket of gases that surrounds a celestial body. In the case of the Earth, this includes the troposphere (0-10 miles), the stratosphere (10-45 miles), the D-region (45-60 miles), the E-region (45-60-100 miles), F-region (60-100-600 miles), and the exosphere.
