Equal House System [Astro*Index]A pseudo-house system which constructs pseudo-house circles through the poles of the Ecliptic, and through house cusps spaced at 30°-steps along the Ecliptic, beginning with the ASC. Thought to have arisen about the time of Petosiris (1st century, BC), and is incorrectly thought to have been supported by Claudius Ptolemy. The MC is not the 10th cusp, but the ASC is the 1st cusp. The Equal House system is the official system taught and used by the English Faculty of Astrological Studies.

One of several house systems.
Thought to have arisen about the time of Petosiris (1st century, B.C.), it is incorrectly thought to have been supported by Claudius Ptolemy.
The ecliptic is divided into twelve equal houses by lines whose poles are those of the ecliptic itself. There is more than one kind of Equal house system:
E.g. the divisions start from the ascendant as the cusp of the first house, in which case the midheaven is not the cusp of the 10th house but usually a sensitive point located in either the 9th or the 10th house (also known as the zenith-house system because the cusp of the 10th house is the zenith rather than the midheaven);
E.g. the divisions are derived from the midheaven as the cusp of the 10th house, in which case the ascendant is not the cusp of the first house (this Equal house system is taught and used by the English Faculty of Astrological Studies and is known as the Midheaven house system);
E.g. the divisions are derived from the Sun, which becomes the ascendant.
