Upper Culmination [Astro*Index]

Culmination refers to the passage of a celestial body over the observer's meridian, occurring twice daily due to the rotation of the Earth. Upper Culmination (or Transit) refers to the crossing closest to the observer's zenith; Lower Culmination refers to the crossing farthest from the observer's zenith. Both culminations can be seen only for circumpolar stars.
