Eclipsing Binary [Astro*Index]

A type of double star. From the viewpoint of the observer, one star passes in front of the other, causing a periodic fluctuation in their brightness.

Eclipsing Binary [Munkasey M.]

A pair or more of bodies, usually stars, locked bygravity into an orbit about each other. As they rotate around each other, from certain positons one can be seen to eclipse the light from the other at periodic intervals. Algol is one such known star which is an Eclipsing Binary, with a 2 1/2 day period of light and dark.
