Moiety [Astro*Index]Horary Astrology.
Half the traditional orb of a planet, orb meaning an imaginary sphere of light or influence (measured in degrees) projected from the planet according to its nature. William Lilly assigned moieties to the planets as follows: Sun, 8.5°; Moon, 6.25°; Mercury, 3.5°; Venus, 4°, Mars, 3.75°, Jupiter, 6°; and Saturn, 5°. Modern astrologers refer to the sum of the moieties as the orb of an aspect.
