The 7-day period used in many calendars.

Names of the days are derived from the names of the gods or planets in Greek and early Germanic mythology. These are as follows:

Sunday   Sun
Monday   Moon
Tuesday   Tieus, or Mercury
Wednesday   Woden, or Mars
Thursday   Thor, or Jupiter
Friday   Freya, or Venus
Saturday   Saturn

 

The Egyptians used a 10-day week.
