3 articles for "Feminine"
Feminine Planet [Astro*Index]According to Ptolemy, there are three categorizations of feminine planets. 1) The Moon and Venus are traditional and primary because "they share more largely in the moist" nature, symbolic of growth and fertility. (Mercury was considered "common to both genders.") 2) Ptolemy also states that planets can vary gender according to their aspects with the Sun, even Moon and Venus becoming masculine when rising with the masculine Sun ("morning stars"). 3) Planets also vary gender according to which house they occupy, planets in the eastern half of the horoscope being masculine (houses 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, and 12), and planets in the western half of the horoscope being feminine (the remaining houses). Cardanus, in regard to point (3), states just the reverse. Bouche-Leclercq states that planets also assume the gender of the sign they occupy. Some modern astrologers have added Neptune to the list.

Also called nocturnal or negative signs. Ptolemy sights two categorizationsin Tetrabiblos, serving here as historian. 1) The even numbered signs: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces (the other signs being masculine). 2) The sign rising is deemed masculine and the signs thereafter are categorized in one of two ways: a) the signs simply alternate in zodiacal order, house by house; or b) the signs on the cusps of houses 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, and 12 are masculine (opposite quadrants, SE and NW), and the signs one the cusps of the other houses are feminine (the remaining quadrants). It is thought that Ptolemy used Equal Houses or a similar system, so presumably interception of signs would not have been an issue.
