Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, constituting the Fixed Quadruphcity. v. Signs
So-called because they represent a balance of conflicting forces, are more uniformly referred to as the Fixed or Grave signs or Executive types; although occasionally referred to as the "foundation" signs – those which most distinctly typify each element, because of which they were said to have been dominant in the formulation of the Mosaic laws. They have also been called the Seismic or "earthquake" signs, on the assumption that earthquakes most frequently occur when the Sun or Moon is in a Fixed sign. They are the power-houses of the zodiac-reservoirs of energy; the Formators of the Chaldeans, the Cherubim of the Hebrews — the builders of the world. The fixed sign tenacity is depended upon to support or stabilize the leading signs.

Fixed Star Conjunctions to the Natal Chart by Precession The "fixed" stars are the slowest moving of all the bodies we consider in astrology. Some of them are actually nebulae; others are clusters of stars so far away and so close together that our eyes do not resolve them. Each star has its own proper motion in relation to the other stars. These details were apparently unknown or disregarded in ancient times, so that tradition gives us a siimpler way of considering fixed stars in personal horoscope. If we assume that the vernal equinox (or hibernal solstice) is the astrological "New Year" and treat it as a fixed point of reference, the fixed stars migrate past this point at a collective rate of about a degree of the zodiac in approximately 72 calendar years. If we assume any single fixed star to be permanetly fixed and unmoving, we will see the zodiac migrating at the same rate in the other direction. This movement we call precession. It has been going on since the universe began. Arguments over a date in the remote past when the zodiac and the constellation coincided are intense. Any such "fixed" point at which to start counting is human in origin, purely arbitraty, but useful for computations. If we choose to see precession as moving the vernal equinox retrograde in relation to the fixed stars, we are somewhere near or in the early phase of "The Age of Aquarius," the dates differing according to which authority you read. If we choose to view the fixed stars as precessing further into the tropical zodiac, we have a very important wayt of gleaning imformation from personal horoscopes. Col. Raoul Hankar of the French Artillery in World War I taught that the sigal arriving from a fixed star passing a natal planet would give the energy-field (astrological influence) of that planet a superimposed profile. If you have a natal planet precisely conjunct a fixed star, then you have a life-long melding of the influence of the fixed star and that planet. If you have a natal planet that progresses to conjunction with a fixed star, something happens in your character development to match the progressing conjunction. It is absolutely essential that you start with a precisely correct birth chart. In order to be sure of what is being observed, I use only very close orbs. For example, progressing Mars two degrees away from making a conjunction with a natal fixed star (adjusted for precession) is yet a very long way from giving a clear manifestation of that aspect by progression. However, when it is exact, the initiatives taken by the person are strongly colored by the nature of the fixed star. I consider only conjunctions with fixed stars. For other aspects, there could be manifestations too subtle for my observation and very hard to sort out from the many other signals and noises we always encounter. The first step is to insert your own natal chart into a wheel on which the fixed stars (precessed to your birth date) are printed (see figure ______). Look for fixed stars that will come to conjunction with your natal Sun, Moon, midheaven, ascendant, and planets, asteroids, or any comet for which you have a natal position. As a fixed star precesses deeper into the tropical zodiac, the manifestation of a conjunction with a natal planet will begin to manifest in your lifestyle and social environment and your response to whatever that environment may be, perhaps becoming noticeable at .25 degree orb or later. Since such conjunctions come on slowly by precession of the fixed stars, the result is literally decades of a sort of theme or "leitmotif." Most people simply assume "that this is the way things are" or "life is like that" or drift into unconstructive psychological habits and attitudes. [end of Morrison] Stars outside our solar system which appear to be stationary objects relative to the orbiting bodies, in relation to which they were so named. They do have proper motion, but are so distant from us as to appear still. They have greater, though still slight, apparent motion due to the precession of the equinoxes: forward in the zodiac approximately 50.23 seconds of arc per year, the same as eight minutes every ten years or one degree every 72 years. Fixed stars are used mainly in mundane, astrophysical, horary, and electional. Due to the dour tone of traditional interpretations for fixed stars, they are not widely used in natal astrology. In ancient Astrology, many of these have names and meanings, and a planetary or sensitive point in conjunction with one of them was of great importance, especially in Arabian writings.

Those stars outside our solar system that appear stationary on the celestial sphere when compared with the wanderings of the Sun, Moon, and planets. They do have proper motion, but are so distant from us as to appear still. Their apparent motion is greater (though still slight) than their proper motion due to the precession of the equinoxes: approximately 50.23 seconds of arc forward in the zodiac per year, the same as eight minutes every ten years or one degree every 72 years.
Fixed stars are used mainly in mundane, astro- physical, horary, and electional astrology. Due to the dour tone of the traditional interpretations of them, the fixed stars are not widely used in natal astrology.
Noel Tyl observes, "The meanings developed around almost all the stars are drastic, promising scandal, death, blindness, upheaval, chaos, etc. Perhaps this was ancient astrology's way of grasping the concept of fate — of explaining the painful anomalies of life in those times, before there was any knowledge of the trans-saturnian planets."

♦ Solar System ♦ Proper Motion ♦ Celestial Sphere ♦ Apparent Motion ♦ Precession of the Equinoxes ♦ Sensitive Point
A star in the Celestial Sphere which is so far away that its proper motion due to its own velocity or precession is virtually unobservable to the eye over the time period of a century or so.

♦ Solar System ♦ Proper Motion ♦ Celestial Sphere ♦ Apparent Motion ♦ Precession of the Equinoxes ♦ Sensitive Point
A fixed star is in conjunction with a planet when not more distant than 5° of longitude and 2° of latitude.
Stars were classified by the ancients as "fixed stars" to distinguish them from the "wandering" stars - which, when their orbits were discovered, became known as planets, in that they revolve in a plane. Stars have a proper motion of their own, but owing to their remoteness this motion could be measured only by observations taken over a protracted period - far in excess of a mere lifetime. There is no reason why the term should not now bc abandoned in favor of the simple designation of "star."
v. Stars.
