Giant Star [Astro*Index]

A grouping of stars on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram (which relates spectral type and absolute magnitude).

When a star has burned up a certain percentage of its hydrogen, structural changes take place, and it expands greatly, leaves the Main Sequence, and begins burning helium. It, then, generally becomes some type of giant star.
