Partile aspect with angular separation of 90°. One of the major or Ptolemaic aspects. Traditionally a hard aspect. Unites signs of disharmonious elements. The fourth harmonic. Assigned an orb of somewhere between 5° to 10°. Signifies a polarization in a cycle of relationship; a uneasy discordance of two energies; solid exteriorization or concrete manifestation. [Pythagorean paradigm of the tetrad is the four elements.]

Traditionally the square is a stressful, unharmonious aspect. It indicates clashing interests, obstacles, and a desire to overcome. The energy of the square should be used carefully and constructively.
