Void of Course [DeVore]Said of a planet which forms no complete aspect before leaving the Sign in which it is posited at birth. When the Moon is so placed it denies fruition to much of the good otherwise promised in the Figure. In Horary Astrology a planet so placed is said to indicate a person devoid of objective or purpose, hence one who abandons himself to aimless endeavor.

The moon is said to be "void of course" between completion of its last major aspect in one sign and its entry into the next sign. Al H. Morrison (from Ephemeris of the Void of Course Moon, with permission) Void of Course Moon Every couple of days, there comes a time that is best used for subjective, spiritual, non-material concerns, like prayer, yoga, play, psychotherapy, or passive experience, sleep, or meditation. This period may last a few seconds, or it may be three days and nights in a single session. It begins when the Moon in transit makes the last major aspect it will make before it changes from one sign of the zodiac to the next. It ends when the Moon enters the next sign. It is the void of course Moon. You may call it a silly season, or vacation from normal living. Decision-making in such periods turns out later to be unrealistic. Creativity diverges into unplanned directions, improvisations, false starts, and error. If you buy any object, you never use it fully. Enterprises founded while the Moon is void of course do fail after long and costly effort. Human judgment is more fallible than usual during the time the Moon is void of course. This is the principle factor in all observed experience thus far. Routine proceeds readily, but often requires an adjustment later. Defects or shortages come to light. Delay and frustration are commonly experienced while the Moon is void of course. Neurotic tendencies and bad habits are more open to change. ESP experiments show odd results. Historic events during such periods have a wild, Pandora's Box impact on cultural evolution. The first two dozen successful space shots were all launched with the Moon void of course, to open an all-new age. People born with the Moon void of course suffer a subtle distortion or hindrance in their fluent expression of emotions. Often, what most people perceive as trivial takes on intense emotional importance to them. Sometimes they are untouched by what would distress most people, as if simply unable to feel reality in even major tragedy. They all feel life with a special intensity that is seldom visible to the public or to the casual observer. In some, it takes the form of perpetual desperation (not neurotic anxiety, as defined by Karen Horney, MD). Often these people find they must invest ten times the effort that most people do to achieve comparable results, at almost any task or profession. Often these people will overdo, putting in far more than is required or desirable. These people often adopt a difficult, over-disciplined way of life. It seems that they have no natural defenses against emotional stress and trauma. What they do find and use is a back-up or substitute system, which either works awkwardly or far more effectively than the natural system would, by erratic turns. Some of these people are career-oriented, and may dedicate themselves to social causes and/or evangelistic activities, without regard to any financial consideration. Every such individual I know has developed a unique, purely personal, subjectively oriented over-compensation. In every case, this is described well by the other details in the individual horoscope. When the progressed Moon goes void of course in relation to the planets of the natal horoscope, there occurs a period in which political and business capabilities are severely diminished. this period may last for a few hours, or for more than a year, according to the details of the natal horoscope. This experience comes to all people, without exception, about every 2.5 years, at dates determined by the natal horoscope. If you have a natal planet located very late in any sign, the Moon sometimes makes a major aspect to your natal planet after it has completed its last aspect to any transiting planet. This tends to sustain your effective action while the world in general experiences errors in judgment. There is much more to selecting a "good" time to act or decide material issues. Skipping the void of course Moon is just staying out of avoidable, obvious difficulties. [end of Al H Morrison] Other plants: The time-period depends upon the selection of a particular zodiac; thus, the intervals of time so designated will be different for the Tropical and Sidereal zodiacs. The term is not employed by Western Sidereal astrologers, and is used primarily in Horary Astrology (with Tropical Zodiac). In Horary Astrology, it is said to make the chart unreadable; i.e., the question asked will come to nothing. In general, it is said to make events frustrating, subject to unforeseen delays, accidents. etc.
