This month we have five planets in Aquarius with an exact Jupiter Uranus conjunction on February 15. The Sun entered Aquarius on January 19, Jupiter on January 21, Venus enters Aquarius on February 2 and Mercury on February 8. Uranus has been in Aquarius since last January and will remain there for six more years. This is a lot of electrical energy; if we can ground ourselves with it, we have the opportunity to make some strong breakthroughs. If our circuits get burnt out, the breakthroughs may become break downs.

Uranus and Aquarius govern the higher nervous system; our intuitions, impulses, flashes of inspiration are all ruled by Aquarius. Too much of this mental energy, such as too many hours in computer land or cyberspace, can produce tensions in various parts of the body, headaches, and extreme mental fatigue.

To balance this influence, we need lots of outdoor exercise with the opportunity to oxygenate our lungs. Skiing, walking, bicycle riding, are all exercises that are aerobic and bring more oxygen to the heart. Indoor exercise such as dance and movement can also stimulate the heart--try some African or Latin rhythms to stoke the inner fires this winter.

Foods and nutritional supplements can also help add oxygen to our bodies. Dark green leafy vegetables such as mustard greens, turnip greens, kale, and chard are rich in chlorophyll which provides oxygen to the body just as it does to plants. Chlorophyll is also the magnesium ion; magnesium is necessary for the electrical conductivity system of the body. Dark green vegetables also contain potassium and calcium, which work with magnesium to balance the nervous system. Wheat grass juice and liquid chlorophyll are other food sources which may be used.

Specific supplements, known as anti-oxidants, also serve to bring more oxygen into the body. The major anti-oxidants are germanium, pycogenol, co-enzyme Q-10, and octacosanol; they may be obtained in liquid, capsule, or colloidal preparations. Anti-oxidants help the respiratory system to assimilate more oxygen.

Deep breathing is also helpful; doing Yoga, Tai-Chi, Chi-Gung, or other movements that incorporate the breath help to ground out the electrical energy and balance the body.

Nervine herbs are definitely in demand at this time of Aquarius. Some basic nervine herbs are chamomile, a mild relaxant and soothing for the nervous system, catnip, often mixed with chamomile, spearmint, and lemon balm in a tea for nervousness, upset stomach, and other tensions. Stronger herbs are hops, vervain, and valerian, which are often used for insomnia. Vervain is an excellent herb for the female system, and valerian has an anti-spasmodic effect.

Flower remedies and aromas work well to relieve nervousness and tension, often caused by anxiety and worry. Bach flower essences include Vervain, which helps balance stress, tension, and overworked nerves, and Star of Bethlehem, which is used for the effects of shock and is one of the ingredients of rescue remedy. FES remedies (from the Flower Essence Society in Nevada City, CA) include Chamomile, which helps with anxiety and restlessness, and Dill, useful when overwhelmed by too much stimuli. Aromas which may be helpful include Lavender, which is known for its nervine sedative properties and has proved helpful with migraines, nervous tension, and hysteria. It also is a heart tonic and calms the heart of palpitations. Marjoram is another essential oil which relieves spasm and lowers high blood pressure. It is also used for muscle spasms, rheumatic pains, and strains.

Here is a letter from one of our readers:

Aquarius' chart wheel

Dear Marcia,
In the past six months, I have had problems with insomnia, with tension in my body, and with focusing on specific projects. I do lots of dance and exercise, so am wondering what else you might see in my horoscope. I was born February 14, 1947 in Oakland, CA at 6:02 AM.

Dear Aquarius,
You also have Aquarius rising in addition to your Sun and Mars. The planet Uranus has been transiting your ascendant exactly the past year; it was exactly on your ascendant in January, and now is beginning to move a little off. No doubt you are depleted in magnesium, and should use some liquid chlorophyll, the foods mentioned above, and a magnesium-potassium supplement as well. Your Moon in Sagittarius is opposite Uranus in Gemini, so this, too, can cause restlessness, tension, and insomnia. In addition to your dance and aerobic type exercise, you might want to focus on some deep breathing with slow movements.
