Scorpio, a time of releasing the old energies and beginning a new cycle. With Hallowe'en and el Dia de los Muertos, we have said good-bye to old friends, burned everything from the past year, and are ready to begin again. Nov.1 is considered the beginning of the year in many pagan and earth based spiritual practices because it is a time of renewal and re-birth, a focus on the present.
Our bodies are ready to begin this new cycle as well. Scorpio rules the excretory system and reproductive system. Scorpio's ruling planet Pluto governs the colon or large intestine which gathers up all that we need to eliminate. Cleansing both the small and large intestines at this time will help prevent winter colds and flus while boosting the immune system. We can start by using some aloe vera juice, very mucilaginous and good for all the mucus linings, and then some psyllium husk and bentonite clay which will help to de-toxify and eliminate yeast, fungus, and parasites from the intestines. After doing this, or even before, a colonic irrigation would be most helpful. Colonics utilize water in cleansing the body; (Scorpio is a water sign) with water we wash clean our old emotions and stagnated patterns. After a colonic, we can start anew with nourishing foods and herbs to move us into the new season.
Foods that work well at this time are grounding yang foods that will prepare us for winter. Root vegetables as turnips, rutabagas, potatoes, squashes, and beets mixed with greens to provide us the chlorophyll and oxygen we need are a good combination. Whole grain dishes and cereals made with buckwheat, millet, quinoa, amaranth, barley, oats, and rye will help to keep our bodies warm and our blood sugar up as colder weather approaches.
Mucilaginous herbs as slippery elm, marshmallow root, and ground up flax seed work on the mucous membranes of the intestines to promote better elimination. Abdominal exercises help to tone the muscles and increase the "Chi" energy as well.
Flower essences are important at this time to help us release old emotional patterns. Bach remedies that may be called for include Willow, which works with releasing resentment and bitterness, and Holly, which helps to transform hatred, envy, and jealousy. Some FES remedies (from the Flower Essence Society in Nevada City, CA) work strongly on emotional and sexual issues. Sagebrush helps to release old patterns and purify ourselves as well as letting go of other people's energies with whom we have been intimate. Sticky monkeyflower is useful in breaking free of repressions and fears of intimacy; it also is good in unblocking creative energy. Black-eyed Susan is comprised of a dark part in the center of its yellow flowers. It helps to penetrate the inner darkness and provides spiritual courage for those looking at their shadow sides.
As the Sun's rays diminish, so, too, does our shadow. The deeper we penetrate our inner beings, the less emotional shadow we carry with us. Using crystals and gemstones is another tool that aids in eliminating old garbage. Smoky quartz contains a lot of light in its dark smoky hue. It is helpful for those who are depressed and uncertain about the future. It aids in dissolving toxins, both physically and emotionally, and bringing light into the dark places. Another crystal is black obsidian which acts as a mirror to reflect certain flaws in one's nature and magnify fears, insecurities, and egocentric attitudes. Black obsidian balls bring these dark areas into the light and are powerful meditation crystals.
Scorpio is a good time of year to begin some inner practices which enable one to gain more personal command over the body and emotions. Shamanic practices, yogic disciplines, martial arts--all work on enhancing the inner balance and eliminating disruptive outside influences which tend to dominate our culture.
Here is a letter from one of our readers:
Dear Marcia,
I have high blood pressure and recently was diagnosed with diabetes. I also have some lung problems. Even though the doctor told me my lungs are clear, I start coughing and almost choke sometimes. My date of birth is Oct.28, 1943 at 2:00 PM in Taos, NM. I would appreciate your advice.
Dear Scorpio,
Both your Sun and Moon are in Scorpio and they are square the planet Pluto. This indicates that your colon is very much at the seat of your health problems. The colon and lungs are on the same meridian in traditional Chinese medicine; cleansing the colon will help your lungs immensely. You also have a Mars/Saturn conjunction in Gemini, which rules the lungs. Saturn can indicate where we have blockage and the Mars Saturn squares your Venus in Virgo. This indicates again that the source of your lung problems is digestive. (Virgo rules digestion and the small intestine). In addition to cleansing the colon and small intestine, herbs like osha root and echinacea root, mullein and coltsfoot would be good for your lungs. Your Aquarius rising is square your Sun and Moon; Aquarius is ruled by the planet Uranus and relates to the higher nervous system. This accounts for the tendency to high blood pressure. Using liquid chlorophyll which is the magnesium ion, B complex vitamins, and manganese as well as exercise will help your blood pressure. However, start with the colonics and cleansing because all your symptoms are connected and related to your Scorpio Sun and Moon in a configuration square Pluto and square your ascendant.
